Heading to NYC in a few minutes for a visit to the Met (museum, not opera) and then to Alice Tully for a program of three LvB pieces, plus a Haydn, joined by connections to patron Prince Lobkowicz. One of the pieces is the vocal/piano song cycle 'An die ferne Geliebte.' Another is the 'Harp' quartet, a personal favorite. Our new book includes a lengthy section on Beethoven films, including one of the oddest: An Immortal Spirit pictures Beethoven--it's hard to describe--sort of living the 'Harp' quartet as it is played on the soundtrack (and sometimes on screen) by the Claudel Quartet throughout.
